Landscape

Voila, colored paper. I finally got some. I practiced using my charcoals only black, white and dark gray. I never realized how the few colors and the colored paper can be used to create a mood. Cool. I'm wondering what color paper and what type of scene I should do next.

Mushrooms

Okay, I give up. I don't know why these have turned out sideways. I tried to fix it. The goal was to practice with pastel/charcoal, and concentrate on layering the colors, and thinking about which colors should come first and why. Goofy little shrooms.

I Got Out Of Bed

The inspiration for this one was an exercise in my creative writing book. The exercise was called "Why I won't Get out of Bed". Well, eventually, I do like to get out of bed. The character in my story, fights off the urge, and gets out of bed anyway, even though she could give herself over to depression about her circumstances. I didn't make my bed right away this morning, so I decided to sketch it. Let me just say, I'm furious with my colored pencils. All of them are broken, and you sharpen them and the lead breaks off. Very frustrating, and another reason for soft, muted colors.

Robin

This one looks better in person too, too much glare from the flash. I thought I colored it more smooth, but I guess not. I have no deep reason or meaning for having done this picture, I just felt like doing another picture today. I see robins all around now that spring is here. I think he's a little too thin. Maybe next time, I'll try to do a nice fat one.

Scottie in the Field

I think the more I do horses, the better I'll get. He has less of a hot dog body, like the drawing I did of Snickers. I don't like how crayon doesn't photograph well, unless you have pressed really hard. I'm still in the mood to experiment with my 120 colors of crayolas. They have a bunch more greens than the old box of 64. This picture looks better in person without the glare of the flash.

Lighthouse

I did this during the week, and as I found the time, I colored it in with colored pencil. You can see the textures, because there were things taped on the page behind this. I find paint is the only thing that covers solid and opaque. I've been very lazy about dragging out the paints lately. I want to draw and color.

Okay, I don't know how to straighten out these pictures, sorry. This weekend I bought a box of 120 crayola crayons. Never had so many colors. I spent 5 minutes just smelling them. I did these horses by myself. They're suppossed to be Snickers the pony. Well, I need improvement. The Van Gogh wanna be, was done with pastel, from my pastel workbook. Let's just say, I don't read directions well. I want to do, not read about it, but something is clearly wrong. You need to layer up your colors from the bottom with pastels. I love to layer them down from the top, but they just end up looking muddy with pastels. I need more ideas, I'm fading fast.

Horses and Ponies

I want to learn how to do horses well. These are not interesting pictures, and I did them very fast, but even though I've been around horses since I was 9 years old, I just don't draw them very well. So, I'm going to keep practicing. I like the pony. For some reason it was easier to do a whole horse. I really struggle with horse heads. I feel like they're too long and skinny and the eyes I get them too high up. Oh well, I'll keep practicing.

Eglise Protestante Evangelique

I did this one on canvas, I didn't try to do anything with light or shadows, to try to make it interesting, it's just flat. I had a photograph as a model, but I took the picture at a funky time of day, in which the light wasn't good at all. I just decided to make it flat and sort of bright. I wanted the door of the church open, as all church doors should be.

It's a Bonjour and Butterfly Kind of Day

I'm prolifically goofy today. I wanted to make some bright colorful drawings to put them on greeting cards. I ended up ordering greeting cards with my daisy from last week, and my yellow flower in crayon and acrylic. I'm just having fun with pastels here, waiting patiently for my new art books to arrive.
