I had tremdous fun doing this flower. I did it in crayon, then crinkled up the paper, then painted over the whole thing in acrylic and rinsed it in water. This gives kind of a neat effect, sort of crinkly and distressed. ( I see it as a great way to add interest to the picture and disguise the fact that I may not draw the best!:)

Back to basics. I've had a juvenile afternoon, working with good old crayolas, and I've loved every minute of it. Again, here's a project that looks like a 10 year old did it, but so what. The purpose of the exercise was to see how wax crayons resist watercolor. It's pretty cool and fun to do actually.

I have an art ideas book, so I am trying to do some of the projects outlined in the book. Here's another watercolor. Still not getting the hang of them, but I tried to practice perspective in that, as you go off into the distance, the colors fade, or get lighter, thus I tried to go for that with the mountains and the sky.

Here is my first attempt at putting something on a canvas. Don't fall asleep. What the? Could this be anymore boring? I had a heck of a time trying to photograph it, and get to appear on the blog right side up. Anyhow, I have some ideas for other stuff I could put on a canvas, too. I sure hope I get better at painting though, otherwise, it's a waste o' money to buy nice canvases. I think the stuff I've been doing on paper looks better. Oh, well, I'm still trying, that's the important thing, right? I won't get better if I don't keep plugging along.

Hi There,
I'm back. My friend Chris gave me a bunch of acrylic paints. Wow, that was fun. Now I feel like I'm set. I even practiced mixing colors, and came up with the pepto bismol pink rug. Not exactly what I was thinking of, but that's okay. I tried to practice perspective, and understanding the direction of lines in this one. That's all for now.

Hi,
I'm back. Now that work has started back up, and it's really easy to not do anything during the week. Don't get me wrong, I have a million things that I do during the week after work, church, Bible Study, Spanish class, gym, so I mean it's really easy to not work on art work. This picture is growing on me. It's simple, just my dog Marcel in spring hanging out by the daffodils. I'm now out of green paint. I'm out of spending money too. I've added water to what's left. We'll see how that goes. Hope to post again soon.

Okay, not happy here. I need to learn all sorts of things like, perspective, vanishing points, etc. and I couldn't wait to use my new colored pencils. They cost the same as my crayolas, but I think I like the crayolas better. The crayolas give a nice bright, waxy, shiny color, that I like. These don't, but these have super strong leads that don't break when you sharpen them, or press really hard. It's a trade off. My posts will begin to drop off, once the work week starts. There's no way I can draw, sketch and paint practically everyday, then. A bientot.

Okay, I finished the watercolor I was working on today. This was difficult to go from colored pencils, (super control) to watercolors, all over the place. It's hard because I don't know how to mix colors. I'll get a color, and start, then run out of it, try to recreate it, and it comes out different. What I like about watercolor is that it gives the impression of movement, even in stationary objects, like the atmosphere is moving. But I still like using big globs of paint.

Happy New Year! 2009. I'm just a big kid who likes to color. I sketched this based on an old French poster, and I used my Crayola colored pencils to color it in. I am in process of working on another watercolor right now, but I wanted to take a break and color a picture quickly for instant gratification.
